Lakes are good. Try MN DNR lake finder online. Find some local lakes with recent surveys and look for some above average walleye numbers...average will be your interpretation, after you look at a dozen, or so, lakes. Then get a decent lake map app for your smart phone or iPhone. Look for noted vegetation, rock piles, etc and the obvious points, steep shelves, etc. Walleyes eat bait fish, bait fish need places to hide. In summer, that for sure means some bottom texture.

Take it for what it's worth...I'm a trout fisherman, by heart. Spend some time searching this HSOforum...there are many expert posts hidden within if you take some time to read through them...good luck!

Learn the best walleye body of water that is nearest you. Walleye fishing is like musky fishing where you need to be on a good body of water for eyes and ski to be successful.

Meaning do not try to walleye fish a lake that has marginal walleye populations you may catch some but overall it will be tough fishing on a marginal lake, even though the target specie is present.

Most walleye "go to" destinations are lakes where cranks are a top choice either during the day or night. I would tell you to start by being a troller.

Trolling speeds up your learning curve on any body of water, as you cover more ground faster.

Good luck,

Turk
