Devils Lake 1-06-12 to 01-08-12

Recommended Posts

Just got back from an extended weekend fishing out of Woodland Resort. Ice was about 14" and they were starting to drive smaller trucks out. Fishing was good with lots of small walleyes and some very nice perch. Gold Rattling flyer spoon with minnow heads or waxies were good and dummy rods with chartruse moonglow jigs seemed to work better that other rigs. Fished from 23-35 feet and had fish throughout...perch were more abundant for us in the 30'+water.

Jeff from Woodland Resort was a great guy and worked hard to keep us on active fish. I really had a great time this trip and if you haven't tried fishing out of Woodland Resort, I would give them a recommendation the staff is top notch! They even brought us in from the houses to watch the Bison game since we did not drive out with our own vehicles, and took us right back out for the evening bite as soon as game was done!

I am looking to catch white bass through the ice. Are they hard to locate during the winter vs. summer? Would the white bass and jumbo perch/walleyes be in similar water depths? Or is it one or the other type of fishing?
