Beaver Dam Arcticfisherman

So after countless no flag de-baitings, or flag up,bait gone, no fish, and only a few inches of line out with a frozen spool occurences last weekend with my Frabill round thermals....i decided to upgrade to a couple Beaver Dams. Thoughts on this move? One thing I noticed out of the gate was no cork to put my hooks. Any tips for these new style tip ups?(new to me) I plan on spooling them with 50 yards of woodstock 40# nylon tip up line(wanted to try the vinyl but they were out) a barrel swivel, then 3 ft of 10# flurocarbon, a splitshot and circle hook about 12" apart. Before I just used nylon tip up line directly to a steel leader with a hook and split shot and always had success....or maybe I only got half the fish I would have.Any advice would be appreciated, also plus and minus

of each style. Thanks and happy fishin!

Pretty sure you can get the foam covers at fleet farm. I use them sometimes, other times I don't bother. Most of the time it depends if I remember them or not. wink

You can't go wrong with the Beaver Dams. They have been catching fish and working good for a long, long time. I've tried about all of them and find I keep going back to the old reliable if I'm tip up fishing. I know a few guys who get laid off in the winter and fish every day no matter what the weather. They all pretty much use the Arctics. They'll use the others and will eventually break them. If you want to see a mess, get a few of the round ones and let them freeze down. It won't be pretty.

You'll be fine on the leaders if you are just fishing northerns, but if you target walleyes you will probably need some fluro or mono on there.
