New Rod and Reel

Normally I'll only post stuff I make... but.. this was a custom project I did have a hand in...

I really dont enjoy building ice rods - small, tedious, and Thorne Bros makes awesome stuff!

I had ordered up a new Quiverstick Stealth. I love thier quiversticks and have a stock 27 incher and a 32 inch with outside recoils. I wanted a 29 incher(longest I can comfortably fish in my trap). I wanted the standard panfish handle but Matt J talked me into trying the Syncork handle. I havnt fished it yet but am relly impressed with it. Weighed the rod on my arrow scale and she weighs in at .55 of an ounce!

Heres where I come in. I ordered it with black wraps and orange trim. Then I got to thinking how sharp a black fly reel with orange backing would look on it...

Problem is I really like the Okuma SLV's and have a bunch of them, and they are grey...

So I picked up some quality auto spray paint, took the reel apart, taped off the areas that i didnt want paint, and proceded to apply numerous lite coats to a 4/5.

It came out pefect! Im not sure how durrable it will be but we'll find out soon...

The Syncork is a tad ugly compaired to a nice piece of cork, but wow it is lite! And I will find out how sensitive it is soon.

Did you just receive that rod? I was talking to one of the buys at TB about reel seat length on ice rods and he showed me a build in process and it looks a whole lot like that rod. It was a quiver stick as well and it was very, very light!

Syncork doesn't look as nice, but who cares.

Just arrived in the mail today. I believe it shipped on friday...

Hard to imagin cork as heavy, but this stiff is light!
