Here we are....the second week of the month, and I'm still fishing in open
water.

The action has been very good and one
of the most effective presentations has been, trolling BIG crankbaits. I
had only limited experence with this
presentation until this year, I now
plan on doing much more of it in the future.

If you get a chance to try it, hold on tight and lossen that drag or you
may lose your rod. The strike can be
awsome....I swear they almost stopped
my boat a few times. Good luck!

Guideman -- Are they suspended, shallow, relating to structure, or all of the above? I burned gas a couple hours yesterday without a strike. Ran the magnum Shadrap most of the time.

Hi Clayton,
I have been working around the edges of
main lake reefs and long deep points as
well as the shoreline breaks.
I like to use jakes most of the time, I also use bagley's and the magnum shads.
The firetiger pattern is my favorite, I also use some of the naturals, like the whitefish or pike pattern.
Most of the fish I have caught, have come from 15ft or less, shallow rocks
and gravel have been key for me!

Hi Guideman, sounds like you are having great fun trolling...in November! Wish I were there.

This fall I mounted a couple of the tube type rod holders to make trolling a little more easier than holding a rod with a Jake tied on the end. It is quite the fore arm workout. I tried to use the clicker button on the reel, but it wasn't strong enough to hold the line while trolling. This winter I may try tinkering with the clicker so it won't release so easily.

Have the whitefish spawned yet? I know of a few areas I would try if my boat wasn't stored for the winter. I hope you will continue to have a long and fun November.

Hi Rob,
The whitefish and the cisco's are all busy having fish sex. The water temps
have recovered a bit during our indian
summer but they are still hard at it.

I'm also still learning the in's and out's of trolling for those big girls.
It sure has been fun, I will be hard at it again this weekend, still working in november, man I never get a day off!

Thanks, Guideman -- I appreciate the info. Will try to get out tomorrow p.m., but Saturday for sure. I have the mag shad in the firetiger and will try it -- I've also got a couple old Cisco Kids (before they went under and then got bought by Suick) that have worked in the past trolling on Leech. I'm fishing a much smaller lake in the Annandale area, which is not, of course, a natural muskie lake -- they're stocked.

Do appreciate your willingness to share info.
