marine_man
I've got a new to me home that has the furnace venting through the rim joist.. no surprise there. There is no insulation in this rim joist bay.. and as you can imagine, you can feel some cold air in the bay. What are the requirements for insulation in this area? Do I need to stay x number of inches back from the exhaust pipe? Thanks!marine_man
WallEYES
Sounds like sealed combustion furnace with pvc or maybe abs plastic exhaust and intake? Then zero clearance to insulation
marine_man
Sorry.. failed to mention.. yes, it's a PVC pipe running through the rim joist. Based on your reply, I can use standard fiberglass insulation in this location?marine_man
nobody05
silicon around the pipe inside/outside to stop any drafts. Then throw some fiberglass in the box sill.
