Fall tactics for big Muskie!

Recommended Posts

Hello muskie freaks, well here it is,
fall the best time of the season for getting that fish of a lifetime. What
are your favorite tactics? What baits
do you use? Where are the prime areas
in the lake you fish the most?. smile.gif

Up on the Big "V"...where I fish, I like to throw big cranks and very big
hair. Some of my favorite cranks are
8 and 10" jakes, grandma's and magnum
Rapalas.

The best presentation is to cast them
over boulder flats or steep banks and
mainlake points. Shallow gravel that
has easy accsess to deep water....can also be an excellent location.

When casting a shoreline, try to keep your bait in the...."skinny water" as long as possible. Fishing at an angle to the shoreline.....will help you to accomplish this.

When fishing a shallow boulder flat
or a saddle area, keep that crankbait
bouncing off of the rocks as much as
you can. This technique will get you
more strikes and will often get even
inactive fish to take a look.

Trolling is a presentation I don't often use, although I have started to do more of it. Running cranks in the
propwash can be very effecive in the
cold water period. Good luck and lets
hear some of your thoughs on fishing
muskie in the fall. smile.gif

Never did see you all week?
What happened?
We put a NEW roof on our shed and Did a lot of work in-between snow storms and that on and off again BIG, COLD wind!

Did mannage to boat NINE fish in seven days out of my little 16 foot SSV - 16 powered by my little 9.9 HP outboard.
Some pretty rough going at times and never could fish for more than and hour or two due to the very high winds raiseing hell with that boat.
Very lucky to get back alive twice!
Wednesday night the 10th being the best with me and the dogs doing in five fish off one spot about 2 mile from my place.
Biggest being a 49 inch PIG smalliest being a 43 inch PIG.
All on the SAME bait and ALL hand landed in the light of the moon.
Walleyes are also back in Pike bay, big time.

Never did get my boat fixed, it is still in Johns shop.

Also wanted to say hi to the two different groups of rude guys from Illinois that move in on spots being fished by other folks.
I just laugh and smile, because they were not using anything the fish wanted nor did they look like they could find a ski if it was following them, fishing way to fast and passed right over prime locations as usual!
Never had people just move in on me like that all season, and to have it happen twice in one day is weird. With the hundreds of spots on that lake is always will amaze me to see this.
Bizzare, next time I pull up the 12 gauge or the Mag and ask for some free musky fishing tips.!

LOL

See ya on the water sometime?

T.

Hey T, sorry we didn't get a chance to go out...I had to work every day last week. I saw your small boat at the dock
but I thought you were out fishing with
the other one. I guess you can catch a
muskie in any boat your in! My schedule
is open now for most of the month, get a phone up here so I can call you dude!

I will be taking out my dock this next weekend...but I will still have my boat in the water, over at Aronson's. We can
still get out there before the iceup.
Good fishing bud! smile.gif

Ace.
I will be up Saturday to take my docks out, and hopefully take my BIG boat home>
Need to get my other two little boats out of the water and onto the island Sunday and also take out my little dock at Hoo doo?
More work than fishing, but we sould do some Musky hunting Saturday afternoon sometime to see if we can nail a beast?
I saw a real GIANT Wednesday night that I'm real sure don't come shallow much.
A head and body on that fish like I never seen in my life.
HUGE!
Acttually she was following under a fish that was following my bait?
Smaller Fish ate the bait, I set hooks, and it took off on a run, and she rose up and sat off to the side while the 44 incher was doing a number under the boat.
Then she just sank down into the waves over 20 ft of water.
I landed the fish I had hooked, released it and slowly searched the area for this beast, but could not bring her up, it was then that the winds came up again BIG time and forced me in off the water to safer areas by my place.
Way cool.
Hope to run into her again someday!

WOW!
