harvey lee
Well, after another great trip to Upper Red icing eyes both jigging and deadsticking I have to give shout about the Mitchell Meat sticks.Over the last few ice seasons since the Mitchell meat stick came on the market, this has been one of my go to rods. The tip is so sensitive, I can use the rod for icing finicky gills, crappie and eyes that are just touching the bait. The tip will react to all these specie no matter how light the bite is.When the meat stick first hit the market, the rod blank was the same color to the tip. With the suggestion of many anglers, Jason improved this rod to include a colored tip which is much easier to view with a very light hit.I know that when the rod combo's first came out they had a 3 BB reel and that work pretty good for me with no issues at all. Now with the 5 BB reel, things are all the smoother and the drag on the newer reels also seems to be improved.I have iced gills up to 9 inches, crappie up to 14 and eyes up to 28 inches with this one rod.So, in the future, if your looking to save on the pocket book a bit and get one rod to cover numerous applications, be sure to check out the meat stick by Jason Mitchell marketed by Clam Corp. This thread is souly to remark on how well this rod can handle numerous specie under numerous conditions. Not a mine rod is better than yours.I have used the laker rod and have been very happy with that model also. I have also iced many fish with my Perch combo but I see that that model must be sold out for the season already. Must be an in demand rod.http://clamoutdoors.com/ice_fishing/fishing-acc/jm-combos-rods.htmlThanks for a great rod Jason and Clam Corp
muc33
While in crystal clear water in my one man Pro, sight fishing for gills and crappie, my go to rod is the 20 inch Meat Stick! I love it, because even while sight fishing, I can sit back from time to time and just watch that super sensitive tip! When hitting the perch outside in dirty water, I go to the 20 or 24 inch Meat Stick. Great for all species. And a permanent fixture in my rod bags. Northlander
I love mine but have gone through 4 tips on them. Be very careful with them and keep them in a good rod bag. Even then I would open the bag to find the last 1 or 2" broken off the tip. Now I use the cheaper JR's tackle meatstick look a likes and they seem to hold up a bit better and are cheaper. Borch
I have three of them now and have one of the originals which gets a ton of use. I've never broken a tip to this date but keep them in a good rod bag, (Marcum rod bag for 4 set ups). Wish they still made them as It's been a really good rod bags for me.Back to the rods. They have performed well for me and I use them for crappies, bluegills, catfish and wslleyes. When the bite gets tough these rods shine!
