Showdown Upgrade?

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if I need to do the upgrade on my Showdown 3.2. I have been having problems with it reading the bottom. I put it down the hole and it reads that it's 236 feet deep. It does this for approximately 2-3 minutes, then it displays the correct depth and then I can see my jig. I guess it works but not like it used to that's for sure. Do any of you have this problem? If so did the upgrade fix it?

I have the upgrade (bought it that way). I would say it would be wise to upgrade. If that isn't the problem, they should be able to detect what is. Just a thought anyway...

Hey,not sure if Marcum wants people to do it this way, but if you live around the Twin Cities you can just take it there and they will upgrade your unit as you wait. I took mine in 2 Fridays ago and I just waited in the lobby wile they did the upgrade, typicaly takes about 15-20 min, with my luck my unit had an issue that they had to fix also (for no extra cost) so i was there for about 40 min. but that is a lot better than waiting till a few days for shipping.

BTW, mine was the original VPG, I had very simmilar problems, but I have not been able to go and test it out since the upgrade.

Can't say enough about MarCum / Versa E's customer servicer. friendly and helpfull.

Can you post back here if this fixed your problem? I have an original (first year) VPG as well, it does this same thing so often, always on start up. Just curious to see if there is a fix. I took it back to nature vision years ago in Brainerd, but they told me there was nothing wrong with it.

I have not had a chance to test it out yet since the upgrade, I am waiting for safer ice.

My ice fishing motto is the same as when I was in the military: “never be the first, never be the last”

But I have been told and have read in numerous places that the upgrade will fix all the problems, might as well do it now wile its warm so you can hit the ground running when the ice is better.

I will let you know when I get out on the ice and test it out.

I was finally able to go out and use my showdown since the 5.6 upgrade, it seems like all of my problems have gone away. It now locks on to the bottom depth instead of jumping around. Worth the price of the upgrade, and worth it if you can ever find a used VPG for cheap and than going and getting the upgrade vs buying a new one.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
