St. Croix Premier and Berkley "Dave Genz" Rod?

The early Dave Genz Berkley Lightning was great (probably a production rip-off of TB) other than the eyes, which were a bit too small, and a seriously deficient hook keeper. They all had hard black foam caps on both ends of the reel and a black label on the handle that said "Berkley Lightning Rod Dave Genz Solid Graphite Rod." They were not in production very long before all sorts of carp was getting marked with Lightning Rod and some of it with Dave Genz, which is why one of the comments above smacks of not understanding the interest in such a P.O.S.

At any rate, if you have one of those early rods (and a St. Croix copy -- I need to check that out), I think you should count yourself as very, very lucky.

I have 2 of the rods you speak of one ML one L action. They have served

me well for 10 years or so. Also have 2 St.Croix rods witch are similar

in design but no way are they the same quality.

I have a Medium and a Medium Light, both mounted with Avocet IIs, but I've always wanted a Light.

That's too bad about the St. Croixs. I put my nads in hawk for one of their 7 foot ML rigging rods last summer, and have so far been happily impressed.

I have a 29" ML and a 24" L. Up until I started my collection of Thorne Customs, these were my two main rods. I still have them and intend to keep them as a constant memory. My son will get to use them here soon, but he prefers his Power Noodle of the Lightning Rods.

I loved the 24" L Genz rod! That was my go to panny rod for a long time! When I lost my rod bag two years ago I was more bummed about losing that rod than I was about the Thorne Bros rods that were in the bag!

Anybody have one they want to part with? I'll give you what you paid for it originally!

This is the Genz rod with the fat handle-not the skinny handles that came later.
