Thorne Bros Professional Plus Rod

Mike

I have used one laker fishing for about 4 years. I think it's a very nice rod. I have not caught a laker over 9#'s but it handled that with ease.

I have used it for larger pike on Rainy and handled a 19# pike caught by jigging a large bucktail with no problem.

I would have to check but I believe mine is like 36 or 38 inches long.

A very well built rod.

I have the reel seat on my with a spinning reel.

Mike I have 2 of them. 1 in baitcaster and 1 spinning. Both are great for heavier jigging but would probably be too much stick for them 1/4 oz stuff but 3/8 might be doable. I use mine for spoons and big tube jigs or jigging raps, chubby darters and zip lures. I have caught Lakers up to 19# on them and they along with a good reel will handle any fish you toss at them.

I think wanderer has that rod in a baitcast version and it seems a little big for the average Ely area trout. I have a 36 graphite pro spinning and it is great on the average size fish. I did get a 31 inch with it and boy was that fun.

I am thinking about getting a 45in Glass for lake trout.

Mike, I have a few of the graphite in 42" and they are nice. I think you've got the right idea though, the toughness of glass and longer rod overall for lakers is probably a good thing.. I think you could fish any weight lure you wanted; I'd be more worried about drop rate and ability to feed the line with the overall setup than whether the rod will support the lure weight or bite detection with said lure... laugh

This rod would be my BIG fish rod. I like using smaller lures on Burntside but when I am out in the BWCA I like to use the more traditional lake trout lures. I rarely fish out of a house in the BWCA either, so I don't need to worry about the length of the rod. The toughness of a glass rod appeals to me as well.

Thanks for the all the info. It might have to make the xmas list. smile
