Bent tip on st. Croix rod

Is the tip bent so far that the end of the rod where the tip top glues on is cracked?

Or is the tip top bent on the rod or the front part of the tip top bent?

Not sure what is bent.

Without knowing exactly what is bent, the fastest way and not very costly way would be to put a new tip on the rod end and then attach your spring bobber.

The tips are hot glued on the rod. U can take a cig lighter and place a small amount of heat on the tip top and then it will come off.

Now, one can either purchase a tip top from a place like wal mart or a rod building shop in town or online.

make sure you purchase a new tip to fit the end of the rod.

If you have a custom rod builder in the area, I am sure they could do that for you in minutes. A very simple fix.

I've bent a St. Croix by getting it too close to the heater. I just reheated it with a lighter slightly and bent it back into shape. But that was a more drastic bend that what it sounds like you have. I think you may be onto something with the hairdryer. I would remove the reel, and hang it from the tip (with a soft clamp, not from the tip top) with just the weight of the handle on the other end. Evenly heat the blank up with the hairdryer. You may need to do it a couple times to get straight.

I'm going through my ice stuff right now and my St. Croix Legend Spring Bobber rod must have gotten too close to the heater at the end of the season last year as it was twisted and the eyes were out of vertical by about 45 degrees. Tried rotating them on the blank and they were solid. So I figured I would try the hairdryer. Worked like a charm! Very little heat was required. Set the hairdryer on the counter and held the rod with both hands about 1" from the HD. A couple seconds of heat and the blank softened slightly and I was able to rotate it. Let it cool and the rod is now perfectly straight and good as new.
