Mille lacs, walkable areas to fish early ice?

A buddy and I may try to head up a week from Saturday, pending ice thickness of course. If there's enough to walk on, are there general areas such as the rocks on the south side that are easily walked to? Don't have a wheeler and don't want to walk forever to fish. Have fished the big pond quite a bit but never early ice. Any suggestions?

a couple of years ago i was coming back from a weekend up on Minnewawa. It was first ice. Buddy and i decided to try Milacs. we drove south on Hwy 169 and a bit past the casino there's a gas station on the right had side (I don't recall the name but it's a big one, lot's of lights etc.) anyways, a few blocks past this gas station there were a bunch of cars parked along the service road next to the lake. We decided to stop and walk out -- had to walk about 3 or so blocks, easy walk with little snow on the ice. We set up in about 15-18 feet, caught walleyes and a couple of perch.

Hope that helps

Go out from the city park in Isle. It is not too bad of a walk out of the bay and out to the first break and some structure. There are also fish in the bay, but I prefer heading out a bit.

+1 on this ,isle bay is usually a best bet for early ice. According to what i saw on mnlakecams.com today theres ice on it now but im sure its just a skim. One good wind and it will be wide open.
