help with fish finder

hi my wife would like to buy me a fish finder for the boat for xmas. she is planning 200 or less i thought perhaps a color one. i dont know much about them except ive had the 100 cheapies that dont last long and just have cartoon fish. i do have a marcum vx 1p could i buy just a transducer for it would this work good or no. any particular models i should look at thanks

Cant buy much of a fish finder for $200, depth finder yes. The VX-1 will show you fish and structure only downside is no record of what you didn't see when drifting or trolling. For anchoring and jigging flashers are great for this application....

EM is correct on not getting much for $200.00. You might be better of looking on the auction site for a old Lowrance LMS-350A if you really have your heart set on a graph. They were gray scale and did not accept a map card but they were still a good graph/GPS combo.
