Pipestone Questions

I would like to try to fish Pipestone this coming summer as it is not too far a drive for me. I plan to enter off the Clearwater portage. A couple of questions.

1. Is there a topographical map of Pipestone?

2. Is there anyone who would like to share some knowledge about fishing Pipestone for lake trout? My boat is equipped with down riggers and I would like to fish beginning in spring and fishing though the fall. I don't need specific holes or anything just a general area. Half the fun is in the learning.

I know this is early but I do like to plan ahead.

There are no depth maps of Pipestone. The portage from Clearwater is the only access, the portage fee is $25 US or CDN funds and is open from 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM. A good graph will help a lot.

I've got the perfect solution for you fishnut2! Take me with you! For many year's my best friend, Glen Erbe, and I have fished Pipestone. Sad to say, Glen passed away 3 year's ago. While I certainly don't know Pipestone as well as superbee does, I do know of many good area's where we usually could find some fish. Lake trout especially! If you would rather not go with someone you've never met before, I would certainly understand. I would still be very willing to help you out any way I can.
