You can call the refuge to get the latest idea on bird numbers and if they are flying out to feed at all...last week there was 45 thousand ducks on the refuge. Snows have started to move in too.

Been out there since Thursday. Mallards are stale. Filler ducks in decent numbers and workable. Zero sobs until yesterday when good numbers appeared. On my way back right now hoping something special happens on the last 3 days of my license. Have 4 fields tied up that historically produce. At least one of them should have a feed going on.

How'd that go for ya today? We wasted a lot of good mallard days last fall trying to hunt snows.

They should ban snow goose hunting. Fill the rest of the page with expletives.

Mallets still there though and did smack 2 green and a super pinnie right away.

Only way I'll set a white spread in SD in the fall anymore is during a heavy snow/cold rainy/foggy day or if the juvie numbers in the roost are incredible. Ducks tend to work the white spreads pretty good though around here.
