dan z
I have tried a couple different manufactured push poles and they just dont seem to excel in what I put them through I was wondering what people are doing for home jobbers. I have thought about a couple different things but want some input on what you guys/gals are using.
laportian
I harvest wild rice each year and I usually go get a straight balsm tree that is about 20 feet tall. Cut it down, delimb, and peel the bark off. Then trim it down to about 15-17 feet and get the end ready for a duck bill. It usually takes a few days to dry out. Make sure you don't get a tree with too big of a base. If you do whittle it down. You want to have it be very light but very strong. Some ricers use cedar trees. leech~~
I bought a long wooden hand rail at the Nard's and painted it reed green. You can buy the opening push ends to put on them at FF and other stores if needed.
Gordie
Dan I broke three store bought push poles then I used a concrete bull float handle, its a older one that pushes together and button locks but I think the screw together would work great also. I will look around to see if I have any extra ones laying around I buoght a bunch of concrete stuff at and auction and from my bro-inlaw

EW6
Have done the same thing. Bought a 2x2 at the lumber yard. Sanded the end down so a duck bill fit on it, then sanded down the edges. Haven't replaced the one I built 10 years ago. Indestructable and cheap.
BrdHunter01
We also bought a handrail at menards.... We had to tighten the duck bill once in about 4 years. Works great!

Scott M
Push Pole Question I have an Avery telescoping push pole and hate it. Leaks water all over the place when it fills with water. I like my handrail push pole the best.
