hevi shot question

Hevishot goose is 12 g/cc tungsten. This is the "standard" tungsten load. Old remington hevishot was the same density, winchester xtended is 12 g/cc, and remington wingmaster HD is 12 g/cc.

Hevishot Duck is supposedly 12 g/cc as well, but there seems to be an arguement that it is actually 10-11 g/cc density.

Hevishot Hevimetal is a duplex load of standard steel pellets and smaller tungsten pellets. the tungsten pellets are 10 g/cc. (steel is 7.5-8 g/cc) the purpose of this load is pattern density. the smaller tungsten pellets match up roughly with the larger steel pellets in terms of downrange energy retention.

Hevimetal should not be confused with the older discontinued hevi-steel which was a steel blend that had a higher density than that of regular steel.

Near as I can tell, Hevi-shot will be the only commercial loads available in tungsten for new production. Federal is dropping their hi-density and heavyweight waterfowl loads, Remington appears to be dropping their wingmaster HD, and winchester appears to be dropping their supreme elite xtended HD.

All of which means you can buy 2 3/4" 1 1/4 oz loads of 12 g/cc tungsten right now for about $1.50 a round, and there will be even better clearance prices soon from some of the online vendors.
