lower unit issues

My Evinrude 1982 50hp is making a chattering and doesnt go into reverse and it is hard to shift forwards. I hit a log on laborday weekend and the prop is bent but in neutral it spins freely and doest look bent. when you put it in reverse and had spin it it catches and comes free and when you shift it forwards it locked in gear and spins like it should I did try a few cable adjustments but that didnt seem to affect it at all.

Its almost like its only half way into reverse. Could something be bent inside the lower unit?

Any Ideas from the pro's

Thats a great Idea but I have already run that option before and its hard to use a JD when our hunting ducks something about weeds and water passages that just dont mix.. wink
