Dnr # on porty

looking at the regulations it says: All shelters placed on the ice of Minnesota waters must have either the

(1) complete name and address, (2) driver’s license number, or (3) the

nine-digit Minnesota DNR number on the license of the owner plainly

and legibly displayed on the outside in letters, and figures at least

2 inches in height.

but then says: A shelter may not be left unattended anytime between midnight and

one hour prior to sunrise unless the shelter is licensed.

So Do you need to license portables again? or is this just poorly worded?

No, you do NOT need a liscense for a portable. However, you do need identify the owner by displaying one of the three things you listed (name/address, DL #, or DNR #) A liscense would be in addition to the above mentioned, but is only required if you are leaving your house out overnight unattended.

no you do not have to get a licence for your portable unless you leave it unattended overnight, just as it says. as long as your in it you do no need a licence. the overnight thing i think mostly pertains to permanent shelters, but would apply to you should you leave it on the ice overnight without you being there. good luck.

You need some sort of an ID number on the house regardless if you have a license or not, and that is for a permanent or a portable. That ID number can be your DL number, Name and address, or the 9 digit number that is on your FISHING license, and you need that no matter what.

Portable or Permanent on the lake within the hours stated: no license needed, but you still need an DNR number, DL Number, or name/address.

Portable or Permanent on all night: needs a license AND needs to have an DNR number, DL Number, or name/address.

I would recommend just putting your DNR# on your shack. This was recommended to me to help prevent stolen identity. Name and address or your DL# is all some need to get enough info to cause you problems.

I agree. They get your address and steal all of your ice fishing gear out of your garage...and nothing else.
