Esox_Magnum
Buddy has a 60 Rude and lost most the compression on #2. Guessing it's a ring issue since we cant see any damage to the piston top. What would be a ballpark figure for repair? Motors a late 80's early 90's was once a VRO but not connected anymore all pre mix.
Jaspernuts
I had a ring go on my 99 johnson 115. I found a shop that did a top end rebuild for me for around a grand. Prices ranged from 900-1800 depending on the shop.
Esox_Magnum
Well as luck has it the guy he bought it from is willing to help him fix it. Looks like a trip to the pond for muskies when it's done....Talking about a rebuilt powerhead as the cheapest and best solution....
Sonicrunch
yep. Rebuilt powerhead would be the best way to go.
marine_man
Have the mechanic update the location of the cooling hose on the engine as well... the exact details escape me right now, but 3 cyl 60 and 70 hp motors from that era had problems with air bubbles in the water jacket causing one cylinder to run warmer than the rest, eventually leading to engine failure.marine_man
Esox_Magnum
Middle cylinder is toast, at the shop now waiting for a fix. Sad thing is only on the 2nd tank of gas since buying it but former owner is trying to make it right.....
