Line for Trolling Spinners/Raps?

For trolling spinners and sticks and using mono I have had good luck using 12# Big Game. If Im using a Superline I like Power Pro. I know guys who use 20# Big Game for Bottom Bouncing heavy 4 plus oz bouncers. I usually dont go over 4oz. and the 12# has held up nicely. If Im running bouncers in a lot of weeds I run the Power Pro because it cuts through the weeds better.

I would agree with that. A standard 10# or 12# mono will serve the purpose just fine. Though I have grown to like the Power Pro for pulling spinner rigs, as well. That would be my first choice right now (that or the Suffix 832).

I use 6lb fireline with 6lb floro leaders for the crawler harness. This has worked perfect for me with 2-3lb bouncers in 30 to 35 fow. With this I am able to fish a little more vertical than other people in the boat with mono. To me that makes a difference for touch. My 2 cents

6 lb line with 2-3 lb bouncers? I would say you would be vertical. LOL.

If your talking 6lb line with 2 and 3 oz bouncers I would recomend you beef up your line because your stressing that 6lb line a lot with them heavy bouncers and sooner or later it will cost you fish.

Oooooooooooo yes I did mean oz not lb, lol. Anyway with 6 lb fireline I would never worry about stressing it with 2-3 oz bouncers. Have never had a problem in 10 years and don’t expect I ever will.

It is 6lb test. And if by “often” you mean once a year than yes I am ok. I change the line before every season and have not had a problem for as long as I have been using fireline, basically as long as it has been out. 6lb fireline is plenty sufficient. If it was an issue as you say it would have failed at least once by now. It hasn’t and I have no worries that it ever will.

Ok to each his own. Im not going to tel you you absolutely have to do it. You could probably get away with it for a log long time. But running 3oz. bouncers on 6# test line will surely weaken knots and they will go at the worst time. Like when that 33" walleye is on the end of your spinner. I hope it doesnt happen but I make sure I increase my odds in my favor and run 12#. Good luck to you.
