2002 Buick Century

Recommended Posts

We replaced her fuel pump about 2 months ago just cause her fuel guage was not working and had to get to it just to fix it so replaced the whole thing. Also replaced the fuel filter at the same time. Now about 2 months later she has an extended crank to get the car to start. It sometimes takes 15 or 20 seconds for the car to start. Then when it does start it sometimes dies and have to restart it. The car has the 3.1 V6 with 270,000 miles and it was the orginal fuel pump. Any insight would be helpful. She is at college and kinda scared her car is gonna die.

Thanks

find the fuel pressure regulator. It will be on the front fuel rail right behind the throttle linkage on the throttle body. There will be a rubber vacuum hose coming out of the top. remove the hose and see if gas comes out. You can do this with the engine running (cold engine) or turn the key on and off a couple of times. If gas comes out its bad and needs to be replaced.
