hardwaterfishing
I bought one of these last weekend, figured I would give it a try this season. Does anyone have experience with these, and if so how did you incorporate them into the spread? Also, has anyone tried using goose floater with it? Thanks! BoxMN
We have a few spreaders. They work pretty slick for getting a dozen dekes out quickly, but I think work better in a wading situation than a low profile boat. Reason is, with the little bit of cord, and the length of the spreader arms, it is a bit cumbersome if sitting in, asay a Puddler like we have or the Otter or other low boat. Also, even with just one weight, they can get tangled a bit. We tried them on a jerk string and they worked, looked pretty good. But we now use the spreaders alone for quickly filling holes, but use a bungie cord on one end of a "string" of dekes, and a long cord on the other, and it works GREAT especially on calm days. Cheap too. Here is what we do: clip ($1) a 5' or so bungie ($3) to an anchor (we use an old window weight, $0), the other end of bungie to a string, just like many use for a lead, with about half a dozen dekes on it put the anchor out in lake at end of your jerk rig . clip ($1) the end of the lead to a cord (decoy string, $5) Then that comes to the boat or blind and just yank it when you see ducks but they don't see you. Better yet, have it pulled in, and when you see ducks just let it go It is more of a workout than you might think, but we have seen it work awesome. I would not use it unless it was calm, or unless your dekes are out of the wind for whatever reason. Give it a test and I bet you will use it more, and find ways that it fits your boat or use better. Good luck.
carpshooterdeluxe
I don't use the spreader, but won't hunt ducks on water w/o my jerk string that's for sure.
