brake pads

just a general question. Whats wrong with semi metalic brake pads? they are a bit cheaper than ceramic. (usually get what u pay for) My 00 ford eveidently had a semi metalic pads the day it came off the lot, do i stick with semi metalic? Does ceramic last longer? not get quite as hot as semi metalics when braking? whats with them?

there's nothing wrong with semi metallic pads. The quality of the semi metallic pads is the question. We use one brand that we nick named Super Squeaks. They are a less expensive option but they do make noise a majority of the time.

Ceramic pads are not all the same. There is no industry standard for metallic pads so essentially a manufacturer can take a semi metallic pad and a small amount of ceramic material and call it a ceramic pad.

If your looking for a good aftermarket pad than adaptive ones from NAPA and Wagner thermo quiets are good pads. We have had tremendous success with both of these at the shop. The o.e. pad from the dealer is not a bad option as well.
