40 merc 2-stroke vers's 40 yamaha 4-stroke

Hi Guys

I have a 94' alumacraft backtroller 16' tiller, that has a 40 merc 2-stoke. It does 30 mph with 2 in the boat that weighs 585lbs dry weight. It also performs good for pulling kids tubing.

I'm thinking about buying a new Alumacraft 16' Lunker that weighs 120lbs more,( 705 lbs.) with a 40 yamaha 4-stroke tiller.

Do you suppose it would perform just as good for the kids tubing as the 94 with the merc 2-stroke has??

If I understand correctly, two-stroke outboards have more torque. So a loss of torque and gain of weight might make it tough to sling the kids around behind the boat.

Does that extra 120lbs include the extra weight of the four-stroke?

Im a firm believer in maxing out the HP on any boat. Especially when running a 4 stroke.
