Native Ultimate?

They're great! The seat is incredible and they're pretty stable. The only things that got me were the weight, the lack of hatches and mounting options, and the price point. That's why I went the Trident 13 route. I'd also check out the Tarpon 120 or 140 depending on what you like. MN Basser has a nice T 11 too.

The only thing I'll say about SOT's is that you likely won't be fishing in them until ice-on. That to me, is one of the best perks the Ultimate, and the Wenonah Fusion offers. Early and late season offers some of the best fishing, and personally, I don't like sitting out in the lake, on my kayak, in a pair of waders. Just personal preference though.

That Wenonah reminds me of my Souris River. Maybe someday I'll get a kayak, but for now, I'll stick with my solo canoe because it works better for extended camping trips. I don't use the rudder all that often, but it's great for going upwind. And as a fisherman, it sure is nice to drift down a weedline or shoreline and fish without worrying about picking up the paddle for boat control.

I fished with duff, and yes, that rudder is a helluva of a nice feature. His canoe in general is great, and if you're into paddling, is an ideal fishing machine. The only thing I don't like about canoes is that they get blown around by wind a little more than kayaks.

I have to pick up some scupper plugs for my Trident. I fished in April in the thing, but I usually just wore a light pair of waders, or just sat with a wet rear. The only water comes in right by my feet and in one of those holes I have my Humminbird Transducer so I'm not sure what I'll do.

scupper plugs on the cheap = yellow foam golf balls from fleet farm or walmart if ya didn't know. can also run a piece of cord through them for when you want to remove'em when needed, they work great wink

I have heard of those. I looked around alot this spring for the foam practice balls. Many different stores and all I could find were like 40 packs. I'll resume looking though because they seem cheap and I like the DIY projects.

You can get pairs off Austin Kayak or Ocean Kayak.com for like 5 bucks plus $2 shipping I think is what I paid. I only have them in the seat of mine. The transducer keeps the water out of the one and I don't really mind the other. The seat was the important area for me as I plan on being out into November if I can handle it.
