I also plan on finishing the basement in the next few months, my question is howlong is a building permit good for? I would rather just add the egress window to the basement finish. WallEYES Posted August 1, 2011 Share Posted August 1, 2011 Mn. building code section 1300.0120 subp. 8 states that the permit is valid for 180 days after issuance...we usually grant an extension for "reasonable time" to finish your project. timjones Posted August 1, 2011 Share Posted August 1, 2011 Check with your city or county planning and zoning or whichever department issues permits for your area. Not all cities or counties have adopted the state building codes. Last one I got about 1 1/2 years ago for a 12 X 20 shed was good for 1 year as were the previous ones I obtained for other projects.
