1995 pantera fuel pump

I was on an ice fishing trip last year and my sled wouldn't start. The sled is an EFI model and the fuel pump wouldn't run. Tried a different battery and checked fuses and such. Brought it do a shop\dealer up there and they looked at it and determined it was the fuel pump. They said they didn't have any but could order it and put it in for $300 next week. Since this was 100 mi from home I took the sled with me and decided I could probably the work myself sometime. I went on a couple auction sites and found fuel pumps for $175-$198 new. My question is do I need a new gas tank too? Also would a used one do the trick or do these fuel pumps go bad a lot? Is there anywhere in central MN that might have some junked out ones that I could pull one off and try?

I am a novice with snowmobiles.

thanks.

My Dad has that same exact sled, when you turn the key to the ON position, do you hear the pump? I know I can hear his plain as day. I had a lot of friends that had EFI sleds back in that time and nobody had issues with fuel pumps but that's already a good 15 years ago now. I would try to find the leads to the fuel pump ( OUTSIDE the tank of course ) and hookup a 12v battery to it and see if the pump works, a simple vex battery with a charge in it will do the trick.

You could be looking at a ECU issue too.
