Walleyes in daylight?

So...turns out I can't get out most evenings. So trolling cranks at sunset isn't an option. But I still want to catch 'eyes before the lakes freeze! I live in the Southern metro...lakes are mostly shallow (Marion, Orchard, Crystal). Is there any point in trying to catch walleyes during the day? If so, any recommendations on what to look for, and which techniques to use? I spent several hours on Marion one afternoon last week with fatheads under a slipfloat in about 13 feet. Nothing. Tried Gulp grubs on a jig in & around weeds, and in deeper water. Nada. Crawlers under a slip float and off the bottom...

Any general rules of thumb for me? My wife is really starting to question the investment I made in a boat and tackle. I'm trying to save face here!!

Thanks!!!

Two techniques: jig and minnow and live bait rig with a minnow now.

Use your electronics, look for humps. Even humps as deep as 20-30ft are holding fish now. Points also are holding fish, look deep as the water temps cool. 18 to as deep as 40ft even. Look for those arcs on the bottom and fish em. Walleyes are schooling up hard now, you should see them on your graph. If you see fish they should bite. Use either a 3/8 oz jig and shinner, or a 3/8 oz slip sinker and snell with a shinner. Fish as verticle as you can. Fall is my favorite time to fish walleyes, if the lake you're fishing has eyes you should be able to catch them.

I like to have a little breeze. I have never fished the lakes you are talking about but if you get a 5-10 mph breeze out of the south for a few days it always makes me feel a little better, plus it will break up the the outline and noise of the boat.

Hey wish, if you're every looking for someone to fish marion with give me a holler, I know very, very little about this lake, but only live three minutes away, and hardly ever fish it, anyways I always figure 2 line in the water is quicker to find what's working, not that I'm a walleye slayer by any means anyways. In case you're interested.

what about th weed bite? take a 1/8oz jig and minnow and toss it on the edge of the weeds and troll the points and corners you can always find something in the weeds all year

Welcome to the weekend! I tried Marion again yesterday....looked all over the lake and found some fish on my graph, but couldn't convince any of them to join me in the boat. I'm afraid my fatheads didn't hold enough appeal (GM won't have shiners in their Lakeville store until next month). I wasn't completely shut out though. I eventually changed tactics to target bass. My spinner was hammered by a really nice pike. Great way to end the day!

Nick, great idea...the more lines in the water the better. That goes for other FMers as well--I usually fish alone just because most of my fishing friends live out of state. Anybody looking for a second hand in the boat--your boat or mine--let me know. I live in Burnsville. If you see me on the ramp--silver Hummer and a white Skeeter SL-190, flag me down!
