Hay Creek or Trout Run??????? Guests welcome Friday morning

Hello everyone, If any one is interested I am open to fishing with someone spin or fly Friday morning. Please give your input to whree I should go.

I would like your input on where I should fish Friday. I have fished Hay Creek a number of times and always produce nice fish from there. There is a small area that I have always wanted to go work over as I know it holds a number of big browns, but I have never dedicated the time to do so. This hot and possibly stormy wearther would be a great day to hit that whole.

Or Should I go to Trout Run. I have never fished their, my DNR map is in black and white and obviously the site is down so I can't find the land easments but I am sure I could find a place to access the river legaly. It is a farther drive as I live in Burnsville but a new adventure/experience.

Thanks for your opinions.

Trout Run is pretty fantastic. I would fish here:

Hakim's Bridge at Trout Run

Fall electroshock results were the best ever seen.

Adults/mile = 3,847

>12 inches/mile = 332

>14 inches/mile = 30

>16 inches/mile = 11

Recruits/mile = 7,950 ...that's 11,797 trout/mile!

This is all public easement upstream from Hakim's bridge.

Another good spot would be the next bridge up. Park at Bucksnort Dam and fish your way up. Again all public easement. Loads of quality fish. It has pretty strict regulations including no bait but it is fun.

Curious where you fished on Friday.

Hey Scudly,

Thanks for the tips I think mext time I get out thats where I'll head. I ended up going to Hay Creek, caught 8 all small under 10in. I did have a nice fish on for a couple seconds then he broke my line, saw him swim off into a deep whole with my all gold PM in the corner of his mouth, he was pretty big. I went there due to the weather forcast and sure enough after a couple hours the thunder and lightning came in. It was nice to get out. I wanted to get to a huge whole that I know of on Hay that I think gets very little presure and holds big fish as I have pulled out a few from there before but the over growth was so thick I could hardly walk, it was 6-7 feet high.

I am going to try and get out next thursday and will make the run to Trout, thanks for the tip I'll up date you if I go.

I was at Trout Run Wednesday morning. Fished right at Bucksnort Dam. Lots and lots of big fish!!!

Trout Run at Bucksnort Dam

Wednesday morning I met up with a new friend named Dan and fished a bit. We headed headed over to Trout Run to check out Bucksnort Dam and a little of the public easement pasture stretch just downstream. This was a smart move! Lightly raining already I catch a beautiful 16.25" male on a #9 Panther Martin. We were also catching numerous 12-14" browns to pools just below the dam and the bridge. Then just into the pasture the rain really starts coming down. Dan did not bring his rain jacket but insisted we could press on in the rain. We gave it another half hour with limited success and decided the rain was picking up. We headed back to the dam and fished that again briefly. Dan got a ~15" on a Dynamic lure. I also got a couple more 14-15" browns. Trout Run was good to us, even in the pouring rain!

Trout Run has been crazy good fishing lately. My new buddy Dan who I fished with last Wednesday went back and caught this fat 21" female just this morning. Released in fine shape. Somebody go catch her again!

In total, five fish over 15" in short order. All on Dynamic lures, glimmer trout color.

Hope this helps.

Hey Scudly,

I have Friday off and am heading down to Trout Run per your advise. I am planning on staying until sun down. Is it worth ever fishing up above the dam? Or other good water down stream. Either way. I drive a blk jeep and will be down theresometime in the afternoon until dark.

Trout Run sounds like just what the doctor has ordered up. I've been out 3 times in 4 days, and have caught around 10 fish total. Been doing quite a bit of exploring, so it's been good and all, but wow, slowwwww going for me.

Did you know one of the best times to catch BIG TROUT are at the end of the season? Where would you look for big trout? I suggest the lower end of Trout Run, Hakim's bridge. That is all easement. The BIG DOGS from the Root River System cruise into the tribs to spawn in the fall. That is why the lower end is perfect this time.

Some of the biggest and best fishing can be found on the lower end of Trout Run right now I just wished I lived closer.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
