TechFisher78
I would like to get out tomorrow morning for a bit and am wondering what folks suggest I spend my time on between Lake Independence or Minnetonka? I know both lakes have biggens in them, but Indy is a bit closer for me. I just know that sometime in July Indy turns really green and you cant even see a top raider coming in.Thanks in advance for the advice.
asteffes
Indy was good for me about 3-4 weeks ago, been slower in recent days (at least for me). Tonka has been tough, but things are getting a little better. If you are going out in the late morning and planning to fish a while I would do Indy as Tonka will be crowded on the weekend with boats. You just never know, any given morning can be good anywhere. If you don't know tonka well I would go to Indy simply because it is easier to fish.Good luck!
DHost21
I was out on Indy 2 weeks ago it was starting to get a little green but still were able to see follows. I fish tonka way way more but during weekday mornings so traffic isnt huge. On a weekend though i would agree it might get bad out there by 11 or so. Like asteffes said either one could be good any given morning. If Indy is closer and you know the lake better that might be a better option. If you know tonka though and can get out there before the traffic it seems to be doing ok from what ive seen and heard lately
TechFisher78
Thanks for the quick responses. I will be out on the water by 5:30 am so hopefully I will be ahead of most of the traffic. I don't know either lake very well, but I have been on both a couple times and have some starting spots marked on a map.
DHost21
Let us know. If you go on tonka and pick a launch there I have been around the whole lake i can let you know what to look for if you need
TechFisher78
If I go to Tonka I would use the Spring Park Bay launch of off hwy 15.
asteffes
You must be pretty close to sugar lake as well.......
TechFisher78
Yes, I have fished Sugar twice this year already. Both times I saw fish (on opener I saw a massive fish), but no takers. If you all think Sugar would be a better bet it's just as close for me. My biggest worry with Indy is if it will be clear enough to fish? Mille Lacs isn't much further for me either, but I don't have a clue where to start musky fishing on that lake. The main reason I'm digging for a spot a little more than usual is that I am taking out a buddy that is on his 3rd year of heavy musky fishing and has yet to catch one. I think its starting to make him sick and I would love to see him get one. I know its all about logging the hours, but he's over the 10,000 cast mark and is definitely due. Thanks again for all your help and advice. DHost21
Spring park bay you can go a lot of places. Casco point is a good spot to start. Also a midlake hump out from the landing to the southwest. Both those spots hold fish. Also if you can make it to smithtown bay that whole bay has a big drop off from shore to about 30 feet you can cast to shore and pull out into 30 so you cover lots of depths. The whole bay is almost like that
TechFisher78
Ended up going to Indy. I spent 2 hours on shore waiting for the storms to pass. Nice 30% chance of rain weather people! Fished until noon and never saw a one.
DHost21
Bummer sorry to hear that and sorry for the late reply last time after i said i would help with tonka. How was the water clarity then?
Tommy1990
Hi everybody,I'm new to the board but I fish Indy a lot and was just there Friday and thought I'd share that the water clarity is bad now. Can't see far at all. I haven't been able to move anything out there for awhile either. I'm probably going to try somewhere else soon. Maybe Tonka. 1850Sportfish
I am going to Indy this coming weekend. Is the water still going to be bad or has it cleared up. Taking the kids and wondering if there is any info for a first timer on Indy? Is it a fairly easy lake to fish? Any info is greatly appreciated. Zelmsdawg
The water will still be green. If theres a wind you can get into a little cleaner water as it'll push a lot of the surface algee to one side. It is an easy lake to fish, and you can usually get plenty of follows but they'll just be tough to see.Good luck!Zelmsdawg
