Strikemaster Electra Lazer

I have a fish house and dont like the smell of exhaust inside and oil from the exhaust splattered on the wall of the house so im looking into either a battery powered or propane powered auger. Does anyone own the strikemaster electra. If so how do you like it? Does it hold a charge for awhile? Does the battery get drained if it sits outside in the cold all day? Would it have any problem drilling through 30 inches of ice?

I LOVED my electra lazer the first few years I owned it. I bought it cause 90% of the time I fished, I spent it at my fish house and it work perfect. No fumes, easy to start, no problems.

The questions you asked, it would be perfect for you. It WILL drill through 30", does hold a charge (sort of, I'll explain), and you will see a slight drop if stored outside (you'll only notice this cause if it dies and you warm it up you may get another hole or two).

If you strickly purchase this for your fish house and thats it, it will be the perfect auger. VERY relaible and you'll love the hassle free, no fumes, push button start. But trust me, if this is your only auger and you plan other fishing trips where you may need to hole hop or "search" for fish, this auger is no good!

This auger will ONLY drill around 20-30 holes in less then 24" and around 15 with thicker ice. I've recently started run-n-gun ice fishing and this auger is no good. even with a back up battery (which is a pain to swap out on the ice) you will only have 40 or less whole for a full day fishing which sometime can leave you out of luck on the ice. People who think they purchase this to save money, guess again. Battery will only last for two season (if proper maintenance) and they cost $30+ which you'll NEVER spend that much on gas in two years.

Buy a nice all around gas auger and don't look back. Deal with the fumes for a half hour or so but atleast you'll be able to fish all season and not limit yourself to what your auger can do...or do what I did and buy a used gas auger for those days you plan to leave your fish house and do some "real" fishing.

Again, electric auger is great for fish house fishing and thats it. If money is not an issue, purchase a propane auger as you'll get the holes and exhaust free smell but you'll pay for it in propane bottles....and those little guys have been going up in price every year and they'll continue that trend until we peak out. Gas is still the best bet for price, reliablitly, and functionality.( Some day your fishing style may change like mine did and your stuck with a limited hole auger and it SUCKS....espically after you bragged it up to all your friends).

Thanks pulleye16. I should have explained I already have a strikemaster gas auger for my portable fishing so im looking to buy the electric only for my fish house. I pretty much made my mind up on the electra but wanted someone elses opinion on it. Sounds like a good auger for what I need it for.

Thanks

I don't own one, but used one last winter. It didn't cut an 8" hole nearly as fast as my 10" gas Lazer, but it did cut about as fast as my friends 8" gas w/chipper. ANother thing to think about is if you plan on leaving your house sit in one spot for a while. The Lazer bits don't redrill holes worth a [PoorWordUsage].

I have a Electra Lazer for the house only and when the ice gets real thick it does take a toll on those small batteries. So I have the cable and connect it to my deep cycle in my house and that really zips thru the ice then. Re drilling with this auger is tough going thru thick ice so I don't use the small batteries and just hook up the cable to git-r-done!

I'me also was told by the doctor to avoid exaust, smoke, or any fumes so I use the Electra in the house only!

Might use this auger outside for early ice though2c

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
