01 F150 Erractic Blend Door Actuator

Recommended Posts

Hello Fellas,

I have been having some issues with my A/C for the last couple of months and have finally decided to look into what the problem was. First of all, my truck is an '01 F150 with a 5.4L. The problem I have been having is that while on A/C the temperature keeps fluctuating between hot and cold. I read on the internet that the most likely cause was a broken blend door. I wasn't real excited to hear that due to the repair cost ($800) or the time, 8-10 hours if I would do it myself. I now don't believe that I have a broken blend door. I can see the blend door actuator turning the blend door as I rotate the temperature control. After a couple of seconds of rotating one way, without provocation the blend door actuator turns the other way, and so on so forth. I am not sure if the problem is the blend door actuator, or the temperature control knob??? Any ideas? Thanks smile

Yeah, it sounds like the blend door. I have a 00 ford f-150 and similar problems. Does it make some noise when it opens and closes? It is about 6 to 8 hundred to fix. Are you mechanicaly inclined or at least a little bit. If so, what I did is went on You Tube and went into 00 ford F-150 blend door repair and there is a video that shows how to repair it without tearing out the whole dash assembly. I did it and it took me about 2 hours and was done. Works great now and yes the fords are really knowen for blend door problems. Let me know if you need anything else.

I ended up pulling the cowling off that covers up the blend door motor. I waited until the air was very cold (door fully open), then unplugged the wire harness. I am sure if I would have brought it in they would have told me the blend door was broken, as that is quite common. I can't control how cold the A/C temp is now, but that is not much of a concern seeing as I live in Florida where the temps are 90-98F everyday.
