2000 mazda protege 1.8 valve cover gasket replacement

Recommended Posts

Picked up this little fuel saver and she needs a few minor repairs. Im not very mechanically inclined, but this should be a project I can handle. Any tips that I should be aware of? I was told to put more rtv in the corners by the timing belt to prevent oil leakage in that area. How long should I wait before using the vehicle to let the rtv dry? Thanks for the tips and responses.

Get a tube of either RTV grey or swing by a Volkswagen dealer and pick up a tube of there RTV. Those are the best two products I have used.

Replace the pcv valve as long os you have the valve cover off.

You will see where you need to add small dabs of RTV once you get the valve cover off and start to clean up the mating surface on the head.
