jdfisherman
Got a trimmer that has a good engine, but the string spool and bump feed mechanism is shot. Looking to replace with either another string bump feed setup (factory or aftermarket) or an aftermarket unit that uses plastic blades. Anyone have any experience with these? Any recommendations for either? Thanks
MuleShack
I have never used plastic blades on a trimmer.I cant say that I would unless I was cutting brush or wild growth. They can damage trees and buildings too easily.Just get a new head and use the .100 diameter line for a heavier duty action.
KatoMike
I have a Stihl that I put the plastic blades on...they don't last long if you trim around any rock/concrete. I can get one trimming out of them before they are too short to use. They are very easy to change out though, and it beats monkeying with the string... Big-Al
I just bought an aftermarket head for my Stihl. It has four strings that are doubled over so there are actually eight cutting strings. A quick trial indicates it works quite well but the better half has not trimmed the whole yard yet. Will check back after that. She will let me know if it any good. PerchJerker
I used plastic blades for a short while, but no more. They really didn't hold up very well, and their cutting diameter was smaller than the string. Makes the string look really good IMO.
