Tire "Ticking"

Recommended Posts

Make: 2000 F150 5.4L 4x4

Signs/Symptoms: Rear tire (drive side) is "ticking." Seems like it will slowly tick after I have applied the brakes and will comtinue to tick for a few seconds until either I stop or accelorate. Ticking does seem go away. Brake pad was "burning" to touch after a short 15 minute drive. Truck also "jumps/shakes" when stopping.

History: Few months back brake pads were severly sticking. I replaced them but the set did not include sliders(?) so I just cleaned them out the best I could and reused them.

I'm really hoping it's just the brakes. Though I could be coming to that judgement cause of the above signs and symptons but I feel I could be missing a sleeping disaster. What worries me is that this could be a bad bearing? or something else? I have no choice but to put a few miles on before I can look at this...well, I'm hoping anyways!

I replaced my rotors and breakes not too long ago, had the same problem. When we replaced the brakes we noticed that one of the "Pistons" on the caliper was sticking. We cleaned it the best we could but is began sticking agian. The brake pad was pressed to the rotor and became very hot, like you described. I replaced both rear calipers and have not had a problem since.

Good Luck.

Maybe you just have a rock stuck in between your tire's tread. grin

That was exactly my thoughts.

I'd replace the pads and rotors. Its really cheap if you do it yourself. If that doesn't do the trick, look at replacing the calipers.
