possible record Mooneye

Recommended Posts

Yersturday I caught what appears to be a new state record Moon Eye

The old record is 1lb 15 oz and 16.5 in length and 9.75 in girth caught on the Minnesota river in 1980

Mine was 2lbs 2ozs and 18.5 length and a 10.00 girth caught on the Minnesota River

I was Jigging for walleye and the mooneye smacked the jig and minnow hard

jUjust had it wieghed and now it application time

They sure both look like GoldEye's to me:

The color of its eyes and the position of its anal fin distinguish it from the goldeye. The iris of the large eyes of the mooneye are silver colored (unlike the gold-colored iris of the goldeye). The mooneye’s dorsal fin begins before the anal fin (the goldeye’s begins opposite or behind its anal fin). The mooneye can be distinguished from the gizzard shad by not having a dorsal fin ray projection.

Here's that 2lb 10oz 20"er I caught a few years back that I thought was a record for sure too.
