Opener Tips

Recommended Posts

I'm gonna be fishing walleyes and pike in a metro lake(riley) shaped almost like a bowl. Its got one rounded point with a quick drop off, and two little bays, but otherwise the depth changes are almost uniform with a max of about 40'. There is no bottom structure I know of and I dont have electronics in my boat, ideas?

Lunker, I fish Riley a lot.....never have got an eye there...probably me tho...there is an inlet on the northeast shore, look for a small bridge...one possibility. there is some "structure" across the lake near the Elevator up the cliff...best of luck...let me no how it goes

Are there bulrushes around the shore? If so they might be in there feeding on the shinners. I think you might beable to long line some cranks up shallow and get some of them to hit. Otherwise I would just troll some spinner rigs until you find the depth that they are at. I wouldn't think that they would be any deeper than 15-20 feet just because of the forage that inhabits the lake. Hopefully this helps narrow your search down! ><>deadeye

Thanks guys. Hey tweet, have you fished for walleyes there? I'm new to the lake, but understand there are good pops of pike and eyes, so thought it might be a good opener lake.
