Dead Hot-Shot emergency battery?!!

Here's a new one on me: I often carry a "hot-shot" battery booster in boat/car. Have helped quite a few people from time to time with a "jump" to get them going.

But in the past two weeks it appears my booster will charge up full

(all green) and then, when it is needed, it is DEAD! Never had this happen. Can they just die and if so, why? I plan to get a new one this afternoon because I NEED to have it handy but I am interested in why one would just fail.

Because its got a battery inside of it, and just like any other battery they have a finite lifespan. Some do exactly what you're describing and some just get weak. You might just need to replace the internal battery if its possible.
