247outdoors
Need help. I recently fished this river and caught few small rainbows. My question is, what other trout species does this river hold and what kind of presentation works best. I'v been using small silver and gold mepps spinners only and not having too much success. Any info would be great.
ted4887
The stream is managed for Rainbows and Browns. If the spinners aren't working, you could always go to the old hook and worm. The spinners should produce well though too. Maybe it's not what you're using, but where you're looking for them?
Scudly
I would not waste your time here. Why bother when you have blue ribbon trout streams just across the river in Wisconsin? Aside from the park at the mouth of the river there is ZERO public access. It is being ruined further by the farmers who plant too close to the creek. Major silt and runoff issues. I tried several times and gave up. You cannot just keep your feet wet because the silt is like quick sand.
247outdoors
browns how? Maybe populations low this year. All i caught were rainbow. Maybe i'll try harder for browns also. Oh yeah and the access is very limited, but don't mind few of the spots that i found that's fishable. What are some good presentation for them brownies down there, if you don't mind sharing. Again, thanks for the info.
Scudly
Watershed got hit hard with the rain. Unlike most trout streams, this one takes forever to clear. I would fish sunrise or sunset. Try worms and big spinners. I use #9 gold or silver Panther Martin. Look for deep pools with lots of cover. Very low numbers watershed. Dont expect to cstch a fish in the middle of the dsy aside from dumb stocker bows released this season Low profile Fish heading uostream Get permission and stay out of the water when possible Most places surveyed don't hold any trout. Seems like a long drive. Have you tried across the river?
goblueM
I agree with Scudly, its worth the drive to Wisconsin or SE MN streams, even something like Hay Creek near Red Wing, not too far away. Worth the drive IMO
247outdoors
might have to take your advices on that. Everyone always talks about Wis. side being so great, but does it get overfish or crowded? i'm more of a scenic and enjoy the nature stuff, don't care if i land one or not as long as it's peace and quiet. Thanks for all the info.
Scudly
Yet to encounter another trout fisherman in St Croix County. Somewhat unfortunate because you have to blaze your own trail. Yes if you fish the Rush or lower Kinni lots of people fishing. But even then there are 5000 trout/mile versus less than 10 trout/mile (most places 0/mile) on the LC? Personally I think the LC is a total waste of time. The watershed aside from stocker bows that get taken out early season is pretty much a dead zone.
