bonefish
I purchased a used 17' Sylvan that came with a Northwoods trailer. The trailer has spent most of it's life out doors and has a bunch of surface rust so it looks prety nasty. I know that there are much better trailers out there, but my question is - is there someone in the twin cities that could sandblast/paint it? If yes, is that economical enough to do vs upgrading to a used Shorelander or other trailers I've seen for $750 - $1000?
JohnMickish
It will probably run $300+ to have the trailer painted and sandblasted. I had a fourwheeler trailer done up in Lino a few years ago, and while it looked great when done I didn't think it was worth the price. Valv
Check underneath the tongue and main beam for rust. I had one the same way and split in 1/2 while on an interstate in Montana. It rusted through right under the winch tower.I was lucky I added a chain from hitch all the way around the mid of the trailer, or I would have lost it with the boat on top of it. JosMN
I think the only way it would be worth it is if you could do all of the work yourself.
3andadog
You might try having it powder coated. There's a place in Lino Lakes that offered to do a car frame (66 Lemans) for $300 last year or so. I had to bring it in dismantled. Might be reasonable if less then $500. Powder coating should offer more chip resistance then paint.
