i'm re-doing the outside of my permanent, i dont want tin since it will be in a shed all summer out of the rain. thinking 1/4 inch sanded plywood for easy painting. any down sides to going this way? maybe 3/16 inch underlayment to lighten it a little bit? any ideas?

We just use 1/4 inch luan mahogany on the outside of our huts and stain them every couple of years with a roller . Keeps it light and makes for a presentable finish showing the nice grain if you use a transparent stain . Siding makes it heavier and you also still have to use a sheet goods material on the outside walls plus if you move the hut a few times over the seasons etc the siding flexes and comes loose . Been there and done that .As far as strength, run your sheets sideways to your studs and we stud 16 inch on centre with 2x2's as per any building code .
