Driftless Posted May 31, 2011 Share Posted May 31, 2011 Zigeunersauce2 tablespoons (30 ml) clarified butter1 cup (240 ml) onion, small dice2 cups (473 ml) mushrooms, sliced3 cups (710 ml) bell peppers—red, orange, yellow; small dice1 teaspoon (5 ml/2 cloves) garlic paste1 ½ tablespoons (23 ml) all-purpose flour2 teaspoons (10 ml) Sweet Hungarian Paprika, ground2 teaspoons (10 ml) Hot Hungarian Paprika, ground2 tablespoons (30 ml) tomato paste14 ounces (420 ml) chicken stock2 teaspoons (10 ml) honey1 lemon, juicedSalt and freshly ground black pepper to tasteThought about doing this.Anyone try this before?chicken cubed and slow cooked in sauce. reinhard1 Posted May 31, 2011 Share Posted May 31, 2011 never heard of this sauce, but it looks interesting. i got till the second week of june to reach my weight level i want so the flour and butter have to wait. but i will try this. iteresting combination of spices and the element of sweetness of honey should make it flavorfull. i looked it up and i have probably had it when my mother made it. i think it would also be good with home made dumplings [real potato dumplings] or spaetzle's made at home also. now you realy got me going. i'll have to call my mother to see if she makes it the same way. the name just threw me off. thanks for posting this reciepe. i think brown rice flour could be used for this for the thickening part and i could use the i cant believe it's butter spray for the butter. just take the cap off and pour some out. good luck.
