Eagle GPS Help

HugoBox

Question

Other than "don't buy that brand again" can anyone offer any advice for an Eagle 642C Sonar/GPS combo that won't search for sattellites? We have two of them on our boat and one will not even search for sattellites. I've done both the soft and hard reset, I've done the software update to the version 1.6, I've left it on for hours outside where it has an unobstructed view of the sky and I can't lock on any sattellites. I'm very dissappointed because even with two seperate inquiries to Eagle I have gotten no response. They are making my next marine electronics decision a bit easier.

If any of you can help I'd appreciate it.

Thanks - Erik

Eagle is pretty much going away, so you won't have to worry about whether or not to buy another one crazy

If that's an internal gps antenna unit, and you've tried the hard and soft resets, then it probably has a bad receiver and you're probably SOL for using it as a GPS. If that model has a puck you could try testing a new puck on it just to see.

Good luck getting it working.

Do the basic system reset once, the Do-Over in the systems setting once. Just in case you switched off the GPS function...that should fix it if you did...maybe...worth a shot anyway. Be sure it is set to internal receiver and not external, and that is why it can not aquire...as there would be none.

As PJ suggested previously, you may need to try an external GPS receiver and see if that will work, or not.

It may take a 2000 series GPS receiver? You may need a connection specific 2000 model to get it to work, or an adapter? I did not see it in the accessories list for that unit so...you would need to contact a tech and quiz them if you can use one.
