Guest
I just thought I'd say I am impressed with the variety of depths walleye have been caught in by people. In late fall (like right now) I fish almost exclusively at night, or at least after sundown, which isn't really night in November now is it.Anyway, most of the really nice walleyes I've been catching have been in 2-6' of water. Some in 1'. I guess it all depends on the forage. If a walleye has to go somewhere special to get something to eat, it will. In rivers, shad are the primary forage, and they can be found in very shallow water. Walleyes herd them into edgesand shallows and pick them off. Almost all the river walleyes I have caught have been stuffed with little shad. I know rivers are a lot different, so fish will be a bit deeper as a general rule, but after dark, you can toss the ruler out the window! It's really fun to catch a big walleye right against a shoreline or off a shallow break.------------------ ~~~~~~~~~~~ / <The Sucka{ \
Guest
The Sucka, In Late fall the walleyes start to scatter some go deep some go shallow and yes this most likely depends on forage. But were I fish the lake a good supply of tublie and in late fall when the water temp. gets cold they go to spawn in shallow water (less than 6' deep). That could be were the big walleyes go at night. The smaller ones go deep for some reason, they go to the deepest spot on the lake. In that spot they are right on the bottom and hungry (b/c their is no food at 90').The biggest fish I caught at was at 94' and was 15" but I seen some one else pull a 20" up so some bigger ones are down their, ------------------FISHSTUNNER
Guest
94' ? Is that a great lake? I kinow there are some local lakes that get over 100', but holy smokes! Do you just put on 2oz jigs or what?------------------ ~~~~~~~~~~~ / <The Sucka{ \
Guest
Actually the lake goes to 110' and is about 5,400 acres. LOL I only go with a 3/8 OZ! It gets down there and they just love it (sometimes). Sometimes it goes down and comes back up ! For a 3/8 oz jig you have to make sure you vertical b/c if you are not then it wont be on the bottom. Green lake is only lake in the area that goes down to 110'. ------------------FISHSTUNNER
Guest
I thought lake Elmo did too? You're not talking about the Green Lake in Chisago county are you? Someone tried to break into my truck at the launch on that lake this year. Tore my rear handle off of my suburban. Didn't get in.... Dumb.....Wish I could've caught up with them. That would have been a good time....Oh well. I had a trolling motor and about 500 bucks worth of gear in there....so.....whew!------------------ ~~~~~~~~~~~ / <The Sucka{ \
