Hawk Pic

Sturg, what kind of pine is the bird sitting in. It looks kind of like an Austrian Pine, with long 6 inch needles. That would be a good clue because sharp shined and coopers look quite alike. Your picture is great but without seeing it in person the size of the hawk and your image might be the identifying feature.

awesome picture. this pic reminds of something strange i saw recently.

the last weekend of april, i was fishing on lake superior near bayfield, wis. We were trolling in 20' about a hundred yards from shore, at around 9 am. we approached what looked like a stick sitting in the water and it turned out to be a small hawk like this one, either a cooper's or sharp-shinned hawk - it was smaller than a goshawk. It was sunny and 50 degrees, and the water was 39 degrees and dead calm. it was very strange to see a hawk sitting in the water! As we got within 20 feet, it flew away...definitely a hawk, definitely seemed like strange behavior. anyone ever seen or heard of anything like this?
