Lower unit question

The other thread about lower units got me thinking about what I found in my motor last year. I changed the lower unit lube last spring before I took it out. When I went to change it in the fall, after it sat for a month or so, there was probably 3-4 ounces of water that came out first. My question is whether having that amount of water in the lower unit of a 150 Merc would do any damage while running it over the course of a year? I'm gonna check it in a month or so and see what it looks like after using it a bunch, but if it's not that milky does just having a little water in there do damage?

Its not very good for it! Drain it remove it and have it pressure tested to see which seals are leaking,Then replace them.If it were mine I'd just drop it and replace all the seals the kit is cheap.

Lower unit lube is designed to be able to handle a certain percentage of water in it before it loses its lubrication value. I wouldn't run it all season with water in it, but it gives you a little leeway if the lower unit does have a leak.

That water came from somewhere and your best option would have been to take it in over the winter when the shops aren't busy to get it fixed. Now, if you have a problem your looking at 2-3 weeks with it sitting at some shops. Keep a close eye on it and if it starts to get milky replace it, don't let it go too long cuz it's probably not going to fix itself, but get worse.
