2001 Chevy Silverado Trailer lights

Recommended Posts

Plugged a boat trailer in to a 2001 Silverado. Brake lights work but the main light don't turn on. A quick check at the recepticle showed us we're not getting power. I susepct a short in the trailer. Any ideas what may have shorted in the truck. Fuses looked ok and the lights work as normal on the truck. Just the trailer wiring recepticle doesn't have power through the (?) common pin. It worked a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for any help.

If there is no power it is not shorted. A short is a power source directly grounded to ground which will cause a fuse to blow. After the fuse blows the circuit is now open since current is no longer able to flow through the circuit.

So if you have no power on a wire you have an open circuit.

MJ is correct. All of the trailer lighting is fused separately in the underhood fuse block.
