how is a turkey scored ? Example-- 15lbs Weight? 3" spurs? 4in" beard?

That's cool, so what kind of a score constitutes a big one, a trophy, or whatever? I know it's in the eyes of the shooter anyway, but is there a score benchmark for a BIG one?

i'd say any bird scoring in the 70s and up would be considered a trophy.

for example, a typical 2 year old tom weighing 22 with an 8 inch beard and 1 inch spurs would score 58.

a bird with an 11 1/4 beard and 1 3/8 spurs weighing 24 scores 74.

multiple beards is where scores go off the charts. the minn. state record is 124 something. it had 1.3 spurs and weighed just 22 something but had 5 beards totaling 38 inches - thats 76 points right there.

WOW a jake with 3" spurs .... I'd love to see what those 3 year old gobblers have for spur length in your neck of the woods.

Better approach those birds carefully. Spurs like that could cut you up pretty well.
